Compact business micro desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 5070 Micro is a new business desktop in a micro form factor. It runs a 9th Generation Intel hexa-core i5-9500T processor with six cores and six threads at a base frequency of 2.20 GHz and up to 3.70 GHz. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive configuration with a 512 GB M.2 SSD plus a 2.5-inch 1 TB SSD. Windows 10 Pro is installed and the device is Windows 11 ready.

Build and daily connectivity

The micro chassis is finished in black and silver and uses a 204-pin SoDIMM memory layout. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 drives video through HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Wired networking uses Gigabit Ethernet while wireless connectivity covers WiFi and Bluetooth. Front-facing ports include a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C with PowerShare, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A with PowerShare, a universal audio jack and a line-out. An optional serial or video port can be configured for VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort or USB Type-C Alt Mode. A USB keyboard and mouse are included.

Upgrade context and fit

This unit replaces older tower or small-form-factor desktops where desk space is limited but multi-core performance and dual fast storage are required. The jump is worth it when moving from a dual-core or quad-core system to six cores and when consolidating an OS drive and a large data drive into one silent micro box. It is not suited for workloads that need discrete graphics, more than 32 GB of memory, or additional internal drive bays.
