This Dell PowerEdge R640 fits a 1U rack space and provides four 3.5″ drive bays. It ships with one Xeon Silver 4210R processor running at 2.4 GHz with ten cores and 13.75 MB cache. Memory is 32 GB of DDR4 ECC registered in two 16 GB modules. The PERC H740P RAID controller manages SATA drives. Integrated graphics and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management are included. Two 750 W power supplies are installed.

Suits single-socket workloads.

The system supports a second processor up to the maximum of two, so it suits workloads that can start on one CPU and scale later. Buyers who need dual-socket performance immediately or require dedicated GPU acceleration should consider platforms with additional processor sockets and PCIe expansion slots. The four 3.5″ bays limit internal storage to that count, so configurations needing more drive bays will need a different chassis.

32 GB DDR4 ECC registered determines memory fit

The installed memory consists of two 16 GB DDR4 ECC registered modules. This capacity and module type dictate whether the server meets application requirements or whether additional DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs must be added up to the 7.68 TB maximum.
