The Dell PowerEdge R730 arrives in an 8-bay 3.5 inch chassis with one Intel Xeon E5-2650v4 processor running at 2.2 GHz. Twelve cores and 30 MB of cache give a solid base for hypervisor hosts, database nodes or batch compute. Twenty-four DIMM slots are populated with 256 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory leaving room to grow toward the 768 GB maximum.

Sustained throughput with dual 495 W supplies

Two redundant 495 W power supplies feed the platform so a single failure does not interrupt service. The PERC H730 SAS controller manages up to eight SATA drives in hardware RAID while the integrated Intel I350 and X540 adapters provide two 10 GbE and two 1 GbE links. iDRAC8 Enterprise gives remote console power control and firmware updates without a local keyboard or monitor.

Twelve-core Xeon E5-2650v4 decides fit

The single installed CPU delivers 12 cores at 2.2 GHz with 30 MB cache; a second socket is empty for future expansion. Buyers who need higher single-thread frequency or more than twelve cores per socket should look elsewhere. The 256 GB DDR4 foundation scales to 768 GB when workloads demand it.
