Cisco UCS server upgrade kit

This 128GB kit contains two 64GB DDR4 2400 CL17 ECC LRDIMM modules built for Cisco UCS B200 M4 and C220 M4 servers. It targets administrators who need to maximise memory capacity in those specific platforms without mixing memory types. The load-reduced design reduces electrical load on the memory bus, allowing the high density required for virtualisation and database workloads. It will not work in standard desktop computers or consumer motherboards.

Installation constraints

Modules are 288-pin LRDIMMs that install like any DIMM, but the server must support load-reduced ECC memory and cannot mix these with unbuffered or registered ECC DIMMs. The 4Rx4 organisation and 1.2V voltage are fixed; the system BIOS must recognise the 64GB density per module. A common mistake is attempting to combine this kit with existing registered ECC memory, which prevents the server from posting. Verify the memory mode in the Cisco UCS Manager before adding the kit.

DDR4 2400 interface limits

The DDR4 2400 (PC4-19200) interface caps peak bandwidth at the JEDEC standard rate for this speed grade. The kit is backward compatible with 2133MHz operation if the platform requires it, but cannot exceed the 2400MT/s data rate. ECC error correction adds latency overhead compared with non-ECC memory, and the load-reduced buffer introduces a small timing penalty. Total capacity is limited to the number of DIMM slots and the maximum memory supported by the specific Cisco UCS model.
