Compact 1U rack server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs fits two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors at 2.3 GHz with 20 cores each into a single rack unit, giving 40 total cores for virtualization or high-performance workloads. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across four 16 GB modules. The platform supports up to 1 TB of DDR4 when fully populated.

Front-access storage and redundant power

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays hold 600 GB 10K SAS disks connected to a PERC H745 controller with 4 GB NV cache and battery backup, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Two hot-swap 1400 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy. A Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card handles network traffic, while iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote management. Rails and a front bezel are included.

Verify rack depth and network cabling

Confirm your cabinet can accommodate the server depth and that the rails match your rack standard. Ensure SFP+ transceivers and fibre or direct-attach cables are available for the 10 GbE ports. Plan memory expansion using DDR4 registered ECC DIMMs only, up to the 1 TB maximum. Check that your SAS backup or replication targets can accept the PERC H745 RAID volumes.
