The Dell PowerEdge R740 delivers 24 cores at 2.7 GHz across two Xeon Gold 6226 processors, backed by 768 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Eight 3.5-inch drive bays accept SATA disks managed by a PERC H730P RAID controller. Integrated graphics and a 10 Gb dual-port 562T adapter handle console and network traffic. Dual 750 W supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management complete the 2U chassis.

Sustained multi-threaded throughput

With both CPUs installed the system runs at the full 2.7 GHz base clock across all 24 cores, avoiding the frequency drop seen in single-socket configurations. The 19.25 MB cache per processor keeps working sets close to the cores during long compile jobs or database scans. DDR4 registered DIMMs maintain signal integrity at the full 768 GB capacity without throttling. The H730P controller sustains sequential RAID writes across all eight bays without thermal limits.

Tool-less rail installation

The 36 x 24 x 10 inch chassis slides into standard square-hole racks using optional tool-less rails that lock with a single lever per side. Drive carriers latch from the front without screws, and the PERC H730P cable routing follows a single guided channel. Memory slots are colour-coded per processor; population rules require balanced channels or the system will halt at POST. iDRAC9 Enterprise is pre-licensed, so remote KVM and virtual media work immediately after the first network configuration.
