The MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON is an ATX motherboard built on the Intel Z390 chipset. It accepts 8th and 9th Generation Intel Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron processors in the LGA 1151 (300 Series) socket. The platform is not backward compatible with earlier LGA 1151 CPUs. Four 288-pin DDR4 slots support dual-channel memory up to 128 GB.

PCIe 3.0 lanes and shared M.2/SATA bandwidth

The board provides three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots operating in x16/x0/x4 or x8/x8/x4 modes and three PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. Two M.2 Key M slots accept 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 devices running at PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA 6Gb/s. Six SATA 6Gb/s ports are also present, but M.2 slots and SATA ports share bandwidth, so populating an M.2 drive can disable one or more SATA connectors.
