The drive connects through a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, so throughput is bound by that generation’s lane speed. Systems limited to PCIe 3.0 will restrict the SSD to half the potential bandwidth, while the U.2 15mm height requires bays that accept the thicker 15mm form factor.
It replaces lower-capacity enterprise SSDs when storage density must grow without adding more drives. The jump is worthwhile for arrays that can saturate PCIe 4.0 reads and need the 2,000,000-hour MTBF rating, but not for write-heavy workloads that exceed QLC endurance limits.
