The Supermicro MBD-X12SPL-F-O is an ATX motherboard built for one 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor up to 270 W TDP. Eight DDR4-3200 slots accept up to 2 TB of ECC RDIMM, LRDIMM or Intel Optane persistent memory. The Intel C621A chipset provides ten SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports with RAID 0/1/5/10 and a single M.2 M-key slot supporting 2280 or 22110 modules on a SATA or PCIe 3.0 x4 link. Dual Intel I210 controllers deliver two 1 GbE RJ45 ports and the Aspeed AST2600 supplies basic video output.

This board targets builders who want a single-socket Xeon platform with eight DIMM channels and ten SATA ports for dense storage arrays. It is not for buyers who need dual-socket scaling, more than one M.2 slot, or 10 GbE networking onboard. The PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and three additional PCIe 4.0 x8 connections serve GPU or accelerator cards, while three PCIe 3.0 x8 slots handle legacy add-in cards. Systems requiring more than two 1 GbE ports or integrated Wi-Fi must add expansion cards.

One M.2 M-key slot on PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA

The only high-speed solid-state interface is a single M.2 M-key connector limited to PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA signalling. No additional M.2 or U.2 ports are present on the board. All other storage connects through the ten SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports with hardware RAID 0/1/5/10 support.
