This PCIe expansion card adds seven USB 3.2 ports to a desktop computer, five of them Type-A and two Type-C. It is aimed at users who need to connect multiple peripherals such as keyboards, mice, printers, phones or game controllers at once. The card fits a single PCI Express x1 slot and works with x4, x8 or x16 slots as well.

Sustained throughput and shared bandwidth

The seven ports share a total pool of 20 Gbps, so simultaneous transfers across several devices will divide that bandwidth. Each individual port can reach 10 Gbps when used alone, but heavy multi-device workloads will see lower per-port speeds. The card draws all its power from the PCIe slot and does not require an external connector.

Driver installation and common issues

A driver must be installed before the card is recognised; the supplier provides a CD and a download link for the RENESAS/VLI USB 3.0 driver. Compatibility covers Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11 (32-bit and 64-bit), Mac OS 10.8.2 and later, and Linux. The card does not support Thunderbolt or video output, so it cannot drive a monitor.
