Helium-sealed 8TB enterprise drive with 7200 RPM, 128MB cache and SATA 6.0Gb/s interface
The HGST Ultrastar He8 HUH728080ALE600 delivers 8TB of storage in a standard 3.5-inch form factor. It uses a SATA 6.0Gb/s interface and spins at 7200 RPM with a 128MB cache. Designed for enterprise storage, it handles workloads of up to 550TB per year. The helium-sealed platform reduces internal turbulence for consistent operation.
HelioSeal technology enables the industry's best idle and active power efficiency measured in watts per terabyte. Lower power draw translates to reduced heat output in multi-drive enclosures. Average latency sits at 4.16ms while average seek time is 8.5ms. The 26.10mm height fits standard drive bays without special cooling requirements.
This drive replaces multiple smaller drives in RAID or JBOD configurations, cutting slot count and cabling. Rebuild Assist accelerates RAID rebuild times while maintaining system performance during the process. The jump is worth it when consolidating 4TB or 6TB units to gain density and lower watts per terabyte. It is not for systems limited to 512-byte sector addressing without 512e support.

Mount the bare drive in a 3.5" bay using the standard side screw holes, connect the SATA data cable to a 6.0Gb/s port and the SATA power cable, then ensure the host controller is set to AHCI mode so the 128MB cache and 7200 RPM performance are fully utilised.
The sealed helium design requires no internal maintenance; plan replacement after the 550TB per year workload rating is reached or when SMART attributes indicate wear, as the HelioSeal process cannot be serviced in the field.
The 550TB per year workload rating is the first sustained-use limit; exceeding it can accelerate wear beyond the 2nd generation HelioSeal and 7Stac design specifications.
