The Intel Xeon Platinum 8462Y+ delivers 32 cores and 64 threads at a 2.8 GHz base frequency with a 4.1 GHz maximum turbo. Built on 10 nm Sapphire Rapids architecture, it targets dual-socket servers that need high core counts for virtualization, database or HPC workloads. The 60 MB L3 cache and eight-channel DDR5 4800 memory controller provide bandwidth for memory-intensive applications. Thermal design power is rated at 300 W.
The processor fits the LGA 4677 socket and exposes 80 lanes of PCI Express 5.0 for fast storage, networking or accelerator cards. A cooling solution is not included, so integrators must provision adequate airflow or liquid cooling for the 300 W envelope. Eight memory channels support up to 4 TB of DDR5 per socket, enabling large in-memory datasets. The package is a processor only, simplifying custom thermal designs.
Moving to this 32-core part makes sense when thread-limited workloads saturate smaller CPUs and the software stack scales across 64 threads. The jump is worth it for licence-constrained environments where each socket must maximise throughput. Buyers who need single-thread frequency above 4.1 GHz or who operate single-socket platforms with lighter multi-threaded loads will not fully utilise the core count.
