This LORDWORLD board adds isolated CAN and RS485 interfaces to a Jetson Nano through the standard 40PIN GPIO header. It targets developers building industrial IoT gateways, robotics controllers or vehicle diagnostics tools that need reliable serial buses. The onboard isolation chip and TVS protection suit electrically noisy environments where ground loops or transients would damage a bare module.
A bare Jetson Nano exposes only UART and SPI, so adding CAN or RS485 normally means external dongles or custom PCBs. This board integrates the MCP2515 controller with a SIT65HVD230DR transceiver and an SP3485 for half-duplex RS485, removing cable clutter and driver conflicts. The jump is worth it when deterministic timing, galvanic isolation and surge suppression are required for field deployment.
The 40PIN header aligns with the Jetson Nano for a solderless press fit, and reserved control pins leave room for additional hats. CAN runs over SPI using the MCP2515 while RS485 uses UART with automatic TX/RX switching, so no extra GPIO toggling code is needed. Common issues include forgetting to enable the SPI and UART overlays in the device tree and mismatching RS485 termination on long cable runs.
