Registered ECC DDR4 limits

Registered DIMMs add a clock cycle of buffering that stabilises heavy loads but prevents use in standard desktop boards that expect unbuffered modules. ECC correction protects data integrity yet requires a chipset and BIOS that implement the feature. The DDR4 3200 standard caps transfer rates at 25600 MB/s per module, so bandwidth scales with populated channels rather than higher frequencies. Mixing registered and unbuffered memory is not supported.

Pre-order compatibility checks

Verify that the Tyan motherboard revision accepts 32GB RDIMMs at 3200MHz and that all eight slots can be populated simultaneously. Confirm the BIOS version enables ECC and registered operation for this capacity. Ensure the operating system and applications can address 256GB of system memory.
