The GW5508NPG records eight IP cameras at up to 8.0 megapixels each using H.265 or H.264 compression. Built-in PoE ports power every camera directly, so no separate switch is required. An embedded Linux system runs on a Hi3535 processor and stores footage on two SATA drive bays. The unit ships with 16 terabytes already installed.

The recorder accepts a total incoming stream of 160 megabits per second across all eight channels. This ceiling determines how many 4K cameras can record simultaneously at full frame rate.
