The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a standard 1U rack space and ships with two Xeon E5-2623 v3 processors, each running four cores at 3 GHz. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 ECC memory fill half the sixteen DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum. Two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives install in the front bays, managed by the onboard B140i software RAID controller that supports levels 0, 1 and 5. The Matrox G200 graphics chip handles basic console output without occupying a PCIe slot.

Sustained-load behaviour

Dual 550 W hot-swap power supplies share the load, so a single unit failure does not interrupt operation. The eight small-form-factor drive bays accept 2.5 inch SATA or SAS devices, allowing storage growth without adding external enclosures. Sixteen DIMM slots across two processors let memory scale with workload demand, while the C610 chipset provides the I/O lanes for additional PCIe cards. Thermal design targets continuous duty in dense rack rows rather than short benchmark bursts.

Build quality and daily implications

Redundant power supplies slide out from the rear for tool-less replacement during uptime. Front-access drive trays snap into the eight SFF bays, making drive swaps possible without reaching behind the rack. The 1U height keeps cable routing tight, so cable-management arms or vertical managers are practical additions. B140i software RAID limits array management to SATA drives only; SAS arrays require a dedicated hardware controller. No operating system is included, so installation media and licensing must be prepared before first boot.
