Rugged mobile rack for 3.5" bay

The ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB491SKL-1B fits a single 2.5" SAS or SATA drive from 5 mm to 15 mm height into a standard external 3.5" bay. A removable caddy enables hot-swap maintenance without tools. The heavy-duty metal chassis and tray are MIL-STD-810G certified for shock and vibration resistance. An IPX5-rated front cover protects the drive bay against water jets from any direction.

Dual lock security and vibration control

A barrel key lock and a thumb screw lock combine to prevent unauthorised removal and to secure the caddy against physical shock. Anti-Vibration Technology isolates the drive from chassis resonance for a safer mechanical environment. Active Power Technology illuminates the status LED only when a drive is installed, reducing unnecessary light output. The single-channel interface supports SATA 6 Gbps or SAS 12 Gbps signalling.

Sustained operation in harsh environments

The all-metal construction dissipates drive heat through the chassis walls during continuous read and write cycles. IPX5 sealing maintains integrity when the system is exposed to spray or wash-down conditions. Hot-swap capability allows a failed drive to be replaced while the host remains powered, preserving uptime for mission-critical workloads. The design serves military, vehicular, maritime, autonomous and aviation deployments where moisture and vibration are constant.
