The PowerEdge R640 fits two Xeon Silver 4116 processors and 256 GB of DDR4 ECC memory into a single rack unit. Eight 400 GB SATA SSDs sit behind a PERC H730P controller with battery-backed cache. Quad-port networking and iDRAC9 Enterprise are included.

Sustained throughput with battery-backed RAID

The H730P controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 while its battery protects write cache during unexpected power loss. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies share load and allow hot-swap replacement. Turbo frequency reaches 3.0 GHz when thermal headroom permits.

Verify rack depth and network cabling before

The chassis uses 2.5-inch drive bays and requires rails deep enough for a 1U server with redundant PSUs. SFP+ modules for the 10 Gb ports are not included. Maximum memory capacity is 3 TB across 24 slots if future expansion is planned.
