The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server built for enterprise workloads that demand high core counts and large memory capacity. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6338 processors, each providing 32 cores at a 2.0 GHz base frequency with 3.2 GHz turbo. The system includes 1 TB of DDR4 3200 MHz registered ECC memory across 32 DIMM slots, supporting up to 2 TB total. Ten 1.8 TB 10K SAS drives connect through a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache and battery backup.

Sustained load behaviour

Redundant hot-swap 1400 W platinum power supplies maintain continuous operation during extended compute tasks. The 1U chassis uses forced-air cooling tuned for steady-state throughput rather than short bursts. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides out-of-band monitoring and telemetry so administrators can track thermal headroom and power draw over long runs without interrupting the host operating system.

SAS 12 Gb/s interface limits

The SAS 12 Gb/s backplane caps each drive at its native 10K rotational speed and the controller’s 8 GB cache size. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are supported, but total array performance cannot exceed the combined throughput of the ten 2.5-inch bays. PCIe Gen4 lanes are shared between the H755 controller and the Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 adapter, so simultaneous peak storage and network traffic may contend for bandwidth.
