Space-efficient 1U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs is a 1U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors running at 2.3GHz with a 3.4GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides 20 cores for a total of 40 cores, targeting virtualisation, cloud infrastructure and dense data analytics workloads. The platform supports up to two processors on the LGA 4189 socket.

256GB DDR4 and eight 1.8TB SAS drives

Memory is populated with 256GB of DDR4 2666MHz registered ECC modules across eight 32GB DIMMs, leaving room to reach the 1TB maximum capacity. Storage uses a PERC H745 controller with 4GB NV cache and battery backing RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Eight 1.8TB 10K SAS 12Gb/s 2.5-inch drives fill the front bays. A Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1GbE OCP 3.0 card handles networking.

The 1U form factor requires a rack with sufficient depth for the chassis and included sliding rails; verify the available U-space and cable routing clearance. Two 1400W platinum hot-swap power supplies demand matching PDU connectors and circuit capacity for redundant operation. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management, so confirm a separate management network port is available.
