This new Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2-socket, 2U rack server designed for workloads that benefit from accelerator cards and storage scalability. It ships with dual Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.30 GHz with 12 cores, and 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 8 modules. The system includes a PERC H730P 2 GB storage controller with battery-backed cache and eight 400 GB SATA SSDs installed in the 2.5-inch drive bays.

Fit for virtualisation and database clusters

The configuration suits organisations running virtualised environments, database clusters or compute-intensive applications that can use the 24 total cores and 3 TB maximum memory capacity. Redundant 750 W platinum power supplies, iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management and a quad-port network daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports are included.
