The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rackmount server built around two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors, each running at 3.2 GHz with eight cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory across four modules and a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. The platform targets organisations that need dense 2.5-inch drive capacity in a two-socket chassis for software-defined storage or virtual desktop infrastructure.

Hot-Swap Bays Redundant Power Rails

Twenty-four front-access 2.5-inch bays support hot-swap SATA and SAS drives, while two 1100 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy. The PERC H730P enables RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Only two 800 GB SATA solid-state drives are fitted from the factory, leaving twenty-two bays empty for additional capacity. Buyers who need more storage must populate the remaining slots with compatible 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drives. The system maxes out at two processors and 3 TB of DDR4 across twenty-four slots, so CPU upgrades are not possible beyond the installed pair.
