The Dell PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rackmount server system built for enterprise workloads that demand high compute density and massive memory capacity. It ships with four Intel Xeon E7-8891 v4 processors, each running at 2.80 GHz with ten cores and a 3.5 GHz turbo frequency. The platform supports up to four processors in total, delivering 40 cores and 80 threads for parallel processing tasks. It is suited for organisations running in-memory databases, large-scale virtualisation or mission-critical ERP and analytics platforms.

Storage density and remote management

The chassis provides 24 hot-plug 2.5-inch drive bays wired to a Dell PERC H330 controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 across SATA and SAS drives. Four 1100 W 80+ Platinum power supplies deliver redundant power for continuous operation. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections for flexible fabric integration. Embedded iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables full remote lifecycle management, monitoring and agent-free provisioning without requiring physical access to the rack.

Memory ceiling defines the use case

The system arrives with 1.5 TB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory populated across 48 of the 96 available DIMM slots, leaving headroom to scale to the platform maximum of 12 TB. This architecture targets workloads where memory capacity is the primary constraint, such as SAP HANA, Oracle or SQL Server in-memory operations.
