This motherboard pairs an Intel X99 chipset with two LGA2011 sockets and ships with a matched pair of E5-2609 V3 processors. It targets builders who need a ready-to-run dual-CPU platform for multi-threaded server workloads without sourcing CPUs separately. Eight DDR4 slots accept ordinary or ECC modules up to 32 GB each at 2133, 2400 or 2800 MT/s.
Moving from a single-socket X99 board doubles the physical CPU count and the available memory channels, which benefits virtualization hosts and render farms that scale across cores. The jump is worth it when the workload can use the extra threads and the memory capacity of sixteen DIMM slots across two boards is not required. Six SATA 3.0 ports and two PCIe x16 slots carry over existing storage and add-in cards.
The single M.2 slot labelled M.2 supports PCIe signalling only, so SATA-based M.2 drives will not function in that slot. A second M.1 slot accepts both PCIe and SATA M.2 devices, giving one flexible option for solid-state storage. Network connectivity is provided by a Realtek 8106E or 8111H controller capped at 100 Mbit/s, which restricts throughput for modern network-attached storage or backup tasks.

Install each E5-2609 V3 processor into its socket, apply a thin layer of the supplied thermal grease on the heat-spreader, then attach the heatsinks. The step often missed is tightening the heatsink screws in a diagonal pattern to ensure even pressure.
DDR4 ECC modules do not have a scheduled replacement interval. Reseat them only if the system reports correctable memory errors or fails to POST after a hardware change; otherwise they run for the life of the motherboard.
