The EN-Labs SATA3TONGFFAD converts a SATA-bus M.2 NGFF SSD into a standard SATA 6 Gbps connection. It accepts B-key and B+M-key modules in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths. The board supports SATA revision I, II and III at 1.5, 3.0 and 6.0 Gbps.

Who it suits and who it does not

Builders with a spare 2.5-inch SATA bay or port who want to reuse a SATA-bus M.2 drive will find it a direct fit. It cannot drive PCIe-based M-key or M+B-key NVMe SSDs such as the Samsung 950 PRO or 960 EVO, so buyers needing NVMe support must choose a different adapter.

Capacity headroom and limits

The adapter passes through whatever capacity the installed SATA M.2 SSD provides, with no added overhead. Performance tops out at the SATA III 6.0 Gbps link, so very high sequential workloads will saturate the bus while random I/O remains within the drive's own limits.
