Raspberry Pi 5 NVMe adapter with PoE HAT
This expansion board connects to the Raspberry Pi 5 through its 16-pin PCIe interface and provides a 40-pin stackable GPIO header for additional HATs. It accepts M.2 2230 and 2242 solid-state drives that use the NVMe protocol. The board also includes Power over Ethernet support compliant with IEEE 802.3 af/at standards, allowing the Pi to be powered through a network cable.
Sustained NVMe throughput and thermal behaviour
Under continuous read or write workloads the adapter runs at the speed negotiated by the drive in Gen2 or Gen3 mode. Dual onboard LEDs give immediate visual feedback on drive activity and power status. Because the board has no active cooling, prolonged heavy I/O will be limited by the thermal envelope of the specific M.2 module installed.
M.2 form-factor and PoE power constraints
Only 2230 and 2242 length drives are physically supported; longer 2280 modules cannot be fitted. The PoE input follows IEEE 802.3 af/at so the available power budget depends on the class of the power sourcing equipment. Drives with unusually high peak current demands may exceed what the HAT can deliver through the Pi's PCIe connector.
