RAID mode is set via a hardware switch or the supplied software manager, offering RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, JBOD, Clone and Normal options. The USB 3.0 link caps transfer rates at 5 Gbps, so sustained throughput will be lower than direct SATA connections.
