What it is

The myVolts ButtonV21 is a compact AT-type switch-mode power supply that converts universal AC input to a steady DC 12 V output. It delivers up to 600 W peak and 50 A peak current, with continuous fan cooling and protection against over-voltage, under-voltage and over-temperature conditions. The unit measures 228 by 115 by 50 mm and weighs 0.8 kg, making it portable enough for bench or field use. Efficiency exceeds 83 % at 110 V AC and remains above 70 % across the 185 to 265 V AC range.

When to step up

This supply replaces smaller linear or low-wattage SMPS units when the load regularly exceeds 40 A or 480 W continuous. The manufacturer advises that peak ratings are not continuous ratings; for resistive loads choose a unit whose peak power is at least 1.25 times the device rating, and for motor loads the peak power should be more than double the motor rating. It is not suited for applications that require constant-current regulation, programmable speed control, dimming circuits or plant-light controllers.

Under sustained load

Continuous forced-air cooling keeps the unit stable across an operating temperature range of -10 °C to +60 °C, with output voltage held within ±1 %. The design targets a service life of more than 6,000 hours at rated load, and standby power consumption is kept low. Leakage current stays below 80 % of the applicable limit when operating at 185 to 265 V AC, 50 Hz. Derating curves should be consulted for loads approaching the upper end of the temperature range.
