M.2 SATA RAID controller
The StarTech PEXM2SAT3422 adds two M.2 NGFF B-key slots and two SATA III ports through a PCIe x4 connection. It targets builders who want hardware RAID across SATA M.2 drives and legacy SATA disks in a single card. The board supports JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 10 modes for redundancy or speed. Windows, macOS and Linux drivers cover current and older releases.
PCIe x4 add-in card fit
The card occupies one PCIe x4 slot and includes a low-profile bracket for compact chassis. Two M.2 mounting screws secure the drives while a 4-pin SP4 power connector feeds them directly. Two native SATA III ports remain free for additional hard drives or SSDs without port multipliers. No extra power cables or adapters are required beyond the slot and SP4 header.
Sustained RAID workloads
Hardware RAID offloads parity calculation from the CPU during long mirror or stripe operations. NCQ support keeps command queues full across all four attached drives. SATA 6 Gbps links deliver consistent throughput for backup, recovery or hybrid-drive caching tasks. The controller maintains stability over extended transfers without thermal throttling or driver resets.
