The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz. It ships with 128GB of DDR4 memory installed across 24 DIMM slots and includes a PERC H330 RAID controller. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives and provides redundant 750W power supplies. It is suited for virtualisation hosts, database nodes or general-purpose compute clusters that need dense memory capacity in a standard rack footprint.

Sustained load behaviour with redundant power

Dual 750W hot-swap power supplies keep the system running if one unit fails or is replaced during operation. The PERC H330 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 across the drive bays, maintaining data integrity under continuous read and write streams. Memory runs at speeds up to 2400MT/s depending on the processor capability, providing stable bandwidth for long-running workloads. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller allows remote monitoring and firmware updates without taking the host offline.

Interface and expansion limits

Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot give room for additional network or storage adapters, while the onboard daughter card already provides four 1GbE ports. Optional NDC modules can upgrade networking to two 10GbE plus two 1GbE or four 10GbE connections. Maximum supported memory reaches 1536GB when both processor sockets are populated, though the current configuration uses a single CPU. The Matrox G200eR2 video output with 8MB cache is intended for console access only.
