Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R740xd packs twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays and dual Xeon Platinum 8160 processors into a 2U rack chassis. Each CPU runs at 2.1 GHz with twenty-four cores, giving forty-eight cores total for heavy multi-thread workloads. It targets software-defined storage clusters, service-provider hosting and virtual desktop infrastructure where capacity and compute must share the same rack space.

Dual-socket platform with integrated networking

Two LGA 3647 sockets are fully populated, leaving no room for additional processors. The Intel C620 chipset connects sixteen 32 GB DDR4 registered ECC DIMMs across twenty-four slots, so eight slots remain open for future expansion. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache drives the twenty-four 1.2 TB SAS hard disks and supports RAID levels up to 60. An Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports without consuming a PCIe slot.

Redundant platinum power and remote management

Dual 1100 watt platinum-efficiency supplies share the load and allow hot-swap replacement. The iDRAC 9 Enterprise module provides out-of-band control, monitoring and firmware updates over a dedicated network interface. Front bezel and ready rails are included for standard rack mounting.
