The slot compatibility that matters

The adapter runs at PCIe 4.0 x4 Gen4 bandwidth and is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 x4. It fits physically into any motherboard x4, x8 or x16 slot while operating electrically at x4. This single specification decides whether the card can saturate your external device; if your platform only offers x1 or x2 wiring, the link will negotiate down and limit throughput.

Capacity and headroom for external gear

One OCuLink SFF-8612 female port accepts standard SFF-8611 cables for a single external PCIe link. The 4.0 x4 lane budget comfortably handles modern GPUs and high-speed NVMe arrays at near-native speeds. Bandwidth runs out when the attached device demands more than four Gen4 lanes or when the host slot is wired for fewer lanes, making multi-device daisy-chains or dual-GPU setups unsuitable for this card.
