The Supermicro SYS-8048B-TRFT is a 4U rackmount server equipped with four Intel Xeon E7-4850 v4 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores and a 2.8 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 3 TB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across 96 modules. The system targets organisations that need dense compute and high-capacity storage in a single chassis.

Eight-port RAID controller limits internal array

Storage is handled by an LSI MegaRAID 9361-8i controller with eight SAS 12 Gb/s ports and 1 GB cache backed by a battery. It supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Because the controller provides only eight ports, the 24 hot-swap 3.5-inch SATA/SAS bays cannot all be attached to this single card; additional HBAs or controllers are required to address the remaining drive slots.

Check power feeds, rail depth and bezel needs

The server includes four 1620 W platinum redundant power supplies but does not ship with front bezel or rack-mount rails. Verify that your rack can supply four suitable power circuits and that the rail kit you select matches the chassis depth. Confirm IPMI 2.0 network segregation and that the dual 10 GbE RJ45 ports meet your management and data-plane requirements.
