Dual-socket Xeon Gold 6154 server

The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a new 1U rackmount server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6154 processors running at 3.00 GHz. Together they deliver 36 cores for virtualization, database and application hosting workloads. The system ships with 192 GB of DDR4 memory installed and can scale to 3 TB when additional modules are added. It is aimed at IT teams that need dense compute in a single rack unit.

Ten-bay storage with H730P controller

The chassis provides ten 2.5-inch drive bays, eight of which are NVMe capable, populated with ten new 2 TB SATA SSDs. An integrated H730P RAID controller manages the array and simplifies volume configuration for operating systems, virtual machines and backups. No operating system is pre-installed, so administrators can deploy their preferred hypervisor or OS. The LGA3647 socket platform supports a maximum of two processors, which are already populated in this unit.

High-density thermal design

The 1U form factor uses front-to-rear airflow tuned for the dual-processor layout and full drive population. Power, Ethernet and USB status LEDs on the front panel give immediate visual feedback on system health. The server weighs 60 units and is engineered to operate within standard rack environmental limits without additional cooling infrastructure. Integrated graphics handle basic console output without a discrete GPU.
