Two 600 GB 15 K SAS drives on the Smart HBA H240ar deliver low-latency spindle performance for OS and active data, while the four LFF bays accept additional 3.5-inch SAS or SATA disks for capacity growth.

SAS interface and RAID scope

The H240ar controller presents a 12 Gb SAS internal interface with 6 Gb SATA backward compatibility, so drive throughput tops out at the link speed of the installed media rather than the controller. Hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are supported, but the card lacks cache-backed write acceleration, so sustained random-write workloads will hit the mechanical limits of the 15 K drives before saturating the bus.
