The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack-mount server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor running at 3.4 GHz. It ships with 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory installed across 24 DIMM slots. The B140i software RAID controller handles SATA drives at RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation in dense data-centre racks.

Memory Headroom and Storage Limits

The board reaches its factory ceiling at 128 GB with the current single-processor configuration, so larger in-memory workloads require a second CPU and additional modules. The B140i controller supports only SATA media; SAS and NVME devices cannot be used on this controller. Eight 2.5-inch SFF bays accept SATA SSDs or HDDs, while optional bay kits can expand the chassis to 16 or 24 SFF bays or add six NVME slots in a dedicated bay.

Integration Requirements and Freed Resources

A second processor kit unlocks the remaining 12 DIMM slots and raises the core count toward the platform maximum of 36 cores. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics core with 16 MB video memory handles basic console output without consuming a PCIe slot. Redundant hot-swap power supplies free the administrator from single-point power failures. Buyers who need hardware RAID, SAS connectivity or NVME boot devices must add a compatible controller or select a different chassis configuration.
