Load-reduced DDR4 limits

Load-reduced modules reduce electrical load on the memory bus so more ranks can be populated per channel, but they cannot be mixed with unbuffered or standard registered ECC DIMMs. The kit runs at 1.2 V and supports backward-compatible speeds of 2133, 2400, 2666 and 2933 MT/s when the platform requires it.

Pre-installation checks

Verify that every memory slot you plan to fill accepts 4Rx4 288-pin LRDIMMs and that the server BIOS is current enough to recognise 128 GB modules. Do not install these in standard desktop or workstation boards that only support unbuffered or registered memory.

What does DDR4 3200 CL22 mean for my server workloads?

The modules run at 3200 MT/s with a CAS latency of 22 cycles. In the supported ProLiant servers this translates to PC4-25600 bandwidth per module, reducing latency for virtualization, database and analytics workloads compared to slower DDR4 speeds.

Will the LRDIMM interface work with my existing registered DIMMs?

No. Load-Reduced DIMMs use a different electrical buffering scheme than registered DIMMs and cannot be mixed in the same system.
