Dell 8TB 3.5" SATA hard drive
This new Dell 400-AHID drive adds 8TB of storage to desktop workstations and entry-level servers. It uses a standard 3.5 inch form factor and a SATA 6.0Gb/s interface for broad platform compatibility. The 7200 RPM spindle speed supports general-purpose workloads and bulk data retention.
512e sector format requirement
The drive uses a 512e advanced format with a 128 MB buffer. VMware environments do not support 512e or 4Kn drives, so this unit is unsuitable for those hypervisors. Windows Server 2008 R2 or later and supported Linux distributions are required for correct operation. Buyers running older operating systems or VMware should select a different drive.
Standard 3.5 inch bay installation
The bare drive fits any 3.5 inch internal bay and connects via standard SATA data and power cables. Hot-swap capability functions only in chassis with compatible backplanes and controller support. Ensure the host system BIOS and operating system recognise 512e formatting before deployment.
