The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a dual-processor platform into a single rack unit. Two Xeon E5-2603 v3 six-core CPUs run at 1.6 GHz and the board holds 32 GB of DDR4 across twelve DIMM slots. It targets small-business virtualization, file serving and lightweight database workloads that need density without a full-height chassis.

Storage capacity and headroom

Three factory-installed 1.2 TB SAS drives spin at 7.2K rpm and connect through a Perc H730 controller with 1 GB cache. The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays and the controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, so raw capacity can grow to 16 TB. Beyond that point the internal bays are exhausted and external enclosures become necessary.

PCIe 3.0 and 1 GbE limits

Two PCIe 3.0 slots provide room for a single additional controller or NIC, but a second card blocks the remaining slot. Four onboard 1 GbE ports handle basic traffic, yet they saturate well before 10 GbE uplinks. The 550 W redundant supply covers the shipped configuration, but adding multiple high-wattage cards will exceed its headroom.
