The PowerEdge R640 fits two Xeon Gold 5118 processors into a single rack unit, delivering 24 cores at 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. It targets workloads that need high thread counts in minimal rack space, such as virtualisation hosts or scale-out clusters. The 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory across 24 slots leaves room for expansion up to 3 TB.

Eight-bay front storage with hardware RAID

Eight 2.5-inch bays accept SATA or SAS drives; two 800 GB SATA SSDs are installed. The PERC H730P controller provides 2 GB cache and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links without consuming a PCIe slot.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies

Dual hot-swap power supplies share the load and maintain uptime if one unit fails. Platinum efficiency reduces waste heat in normal operation. Integrated iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote power control, console redirection and firmware updates over a dedicated management port. Ready rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack mounting.
