This new Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2660 v3 processors. Each CPU runs at 2.6 GHz with a 3.3 GHz turbo and provides ten cores, giving twenty cores in total. The system includes 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight 32 GB modules and a PERC H730 storage controller with 1 GB cache.

The server targets midsize and large enterprises running virtual desktop infrastructure, databases, data warehousing or high-performance computing as a data node. Quad-port networking with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports plus iDRAC 8 Enterprise remote management support dense, managed deployments. 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis

Eight hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with two 400 GB SATA SSDs and the PERC H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through. Two 750 W platinum hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy. The chassis includes ready rails and a front bezel, and memory can be expanded to 1.5 TB across twenty-four DDR4 slots.
