The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack system fitted with two Xeon E5-2680 v3 processors. Each chip runs at 2.5 GHz with twelve cores and reaches 3.3 GHz under turbo. The platform targets midsize and large enterprises running databases, VDI or high-performance computing workloads.

Sustained load on 256 GB DDR4 ECC

Eight 32 GB DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC modules provide 256 GB of error-correcting memory. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across eight 2.5-inch bays. Dual 750 W platinum supplies and hot-swap power keep the system running during extended compute tasks.

Eight 2.5-inch bays limit local storage growth

Only eight front bays exist for SATA or SAS drives. Two 800 GB SATA SSDs are installed. Buyers who need more local capacity than the bay count allows must add external enclosures or choose a different chassis.
