Ready-to-run 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R730 arrives as a complete 2U rack system with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609v3 six-core processor at 1.9 GHz and 8 GB of DDR4 memory. Eight 300 GB 15 000 rpm 2.5-inch SAS drives are pre-installed in hot-plug bays, and dual 750 W redundant power supplies are fitted. It is aimed at administrators who need a validated hardware stack for virtualisation or database workloads without assembling components themselves.

H330 RAID controller with eight drives

The integrated Perc H330 12 Gbps controller manages the eight supplied drives and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60, allowing the installer to choose redundancy or capacity at first boot. No operating system is included, so the RAID volume must be created and the OS deployed before the server enters production. The DVD-ROM drive provides local media installation if required.

PCIe 3.0 expansion and 1 GbE networking

Seven PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated PERC slot are available for additional controllers, network cards or accelerators, but the standard network daughter card supplies only four 1 GbE ports. Higher-speed 10 GbE networking requires an optional NDC upgrade that is not fitted. The iDRAC8 Express remote-management module is included; Enterprise features and vFlash media are licence upgrades.
