This Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server populated with twelve 3.5-inch drive bays. Two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors provide 28 total cores at 2.4 GHz with 3.3 GHz turbo. 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory fills eight slots. A PERC H730 controller manages the included twelve 6 TB 7.2K SATA hard drives.

The platform targets midsize and large-enterprise tasks such as data warehousing, e-commerce, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases and high-performance computing data nodes. Quad-port networking with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports is standard. Builds requiring GPU acceleration or all-flash arrays should consider other form factors.

1.5 TB maximum memory capacity

Twenty-four DDR4 slots support up to 1.5 TB of registered ECC memory, allowing substantial future expansion beyond the factory 256 GB. The LGA 2011-3 sockets are already fully populated with two 14-core Xeon processors, so CPU upgrades are not possible without replacing both units. The H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes.
