The Dell PowerEdge R740 chassis fits up to sixteen 2.5-inch drive bays in a 2U rack frame. A single Xeon Silver 4210 processor with ten cores at 2.2 GHz and 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory handles virtualisation, database and HPC workloads. The PERC H730P RAID controller and a dual-port 10 GbE 562T adapter provide storage and network throughput for demanding applications.

Ten cores at 2.2 GHz

The installed Xeon Silver 4210 delivers ten cores and 13.75 MB cache at a base frequency of 2.2 GHz. This core count and clock speed determine whether the server meets your thread-dependent licensing or real-time processing requirements. A second socket is available for future expansion up to two processors.

Slide-in rails and cabled drives

The 2U form factor mounts on standard rack rails and the 16 SFF bays accept hot-plug SAS drives with tool-less carriers. Integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise gives full remote console, power control and firmware updates before the OS loads. Missing drives are the common gap — the chassis ships empty so you must add SAS media or order them pre-installed.
