The DELL PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Gold 6132 processors running at 2.6 GHz with 14 cores each. It ships with 512 GB of DDR4 memory arranged in sixteen 32 GB modules. The system targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and high-density compute clusters that need strong multi-threaded throughput in a compact form factor.

Redundant 1100 W power and iDRAC9

Dual 1100 W redundant supplies keep the platform running through a single-unit failure while the iDRAC9 Enterprise controller provides full out-of-band management. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays sit behind the front bezel, fed by an H730P RAID controller that currently manages two 120 GB SATA SSDs. No optical drive is fitted, leaving airflow unobstructed for the CPU and memory subsystems.

Eight PCIe Gen 3 slots and quad-port networking

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots accept additional network, storage or accelerator cards. The integrated Intel X550 NDC delivers two 10 Gb RJ45 and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for flexible top-of-rack connectivity. Rails, power cords and a plain bezel are included.
