The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Gold 6142 processors, each with 16 cores. It ships with 256GB of DDR4 memory installed across the system. Six 2TB 7.2K SAS drives provide the primary storage pool, managed by an H740P controller. This specification targets environments that need high core counts and large memory capacity in a standard rack form factor.

Sustained Load Behaviour

With 16 cores per processor, the dual-socket layout delivers 32 total cores for parallel workloads such as virtualisation hosts or database engines. The 256GB DDR4 memory pool supports large working sets without swapping. Six 7.2K SAS drives on the H740P controller provide steady sequential throughput for bulk data ingest or backup targets. Redundant 1100W power supplies maintain operation if one unit fails.

SAS Drive Bay Limits

The chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch drive bays, of which six are populated with 2TB 7.2K SAS disks. The H740P controller manages the array using SAS signalling.
