Dual-socket 2U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with 16 cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules. The chassis includes eight 2.5-inch drive bays, a PERC H730P RAID controller, and dual 750 W redundant power supplies. It is built for organisations that need a dense, two-socket platform for virtualisation or database workloads.

SAS 12 Gb/s storage interface

The PERC H730P controller connects to drives through a 12 Gb/s SAS interface that also supports SATA devices. Eight internal 2.5-inch bays limit the number of drives that can be installed without external enclosures. The two included 300 GB 10K SAS drives occupy two bays, leaving six bays free for expansion. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are available, but the 12 Gb/s link sets the maximum throughput for any attached SAS or SATA media.

24 DDR4 memory slots

The system provides 24 DIMM slots with a maximum supported capacity of 3 TB of DDR4 memory. The current 64 GB configuration uses only four slots, leaving twenty slots available for future upgrades. Buyers who need more than 3 TB of system memory cannot meet that requirement with this platform.
