This new Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for organisations that need a two-socket platform with redundant power and integrated remote management. It ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4110 processors running at 2.1 GHz, 128 GB of DDR4 ECC memory and a PERC H730P RAID controller with battery backup.

24 DDR4 slots with 3 TB ceiling

The motherboard provides 24 DIMM slots populated with eight 16 GB modules today, leaving 16 slots open for expansion up to the 3 TB maximum supported by the Intel C620 chipset. This headroom lets memory-intensive workloads grow without a chassis change.

Eight 2.5-inch bays with two 300 GB SAS drives

Two 10 K SAS drives occupy two bays, delivering fast sequential access for boot and active data while six bays remain free for additional SAS or SATA storage. The quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 GbE SFP+ connections for flexible fabric integration.
