Dual Gold 6132 compute density

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each delivering 14 cores at 2.6GHz with 19.25M cache. It ships with 64GB of DDR4 memory arranged as four 16GB PC4-2666 modules. Four 800GB SAS SSDs are installed behind an H730P RAID controller, and the chassis provides eight 2.5-inch drive bays for additional capacity. The platform targets virtualization clusters, database workloads, and dense compute farms that need balanced core count and memory bandwidth in a compact rack footprint.

Thermals and redundant power

Dual 1100W redundant power supplies share load to maintain uptime during a single-unit failure. The 2U form factor uses Dell’s directed-airflow design to move heat from the dual 14-core CPUs, memory risers, and storage cage through high-efficiency fans. Under typical mixed workloads the fan curves keep acoustic output within data-centre norms while sustaining the 2.6GHz base frequency across all cores. Redundant cooling paths and hot-plug power modules allow maintenance without shutting down the host.

iDRAC9 Enterprise and expansion ready

Integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise provides full out-of-band management, virtual console, and lifecycle automation without a separate license. The network daughter card delivers two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 ports for flexible top-of-rack connectivity. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots accept GPUs, NICs, or storage adapters to tailor the node for AI inference, software-defined storage, or high-frequency trading. Rails, bezel, and power cords are included for immediate rack integration.
